She was hungry, of that there was no doubt
She could think of little else
When noon struck, her stomach spoke
But lower in her belly was the real hunger
When ten past rolled by, she needed sustenance
Or spend the afternoon light headed and distracted
Home was where she had to be
She needed lunch and she needed it now
She’d needed it at midnight and seven and ten
At 11.45am the ache that was want, gnawed
She needed lunch and she needed it now
She needed it fast, good and hot and plenty
Plate piled high - need met chance
with fingers and the flash of steel
And greedy repeatings
‘til dolce brought a sweet,
syrupy satisfaction of fullness
She feasted at lunch
